The highly anticipated 2027 Cupra Raval electric hot hatch has been spotted undergoing final testing in Europe, offering an early glimpse of the model before its official reveal. Images circulating online from automotive enthusiasts Wilco Blok and CocheSpias show the uncamouflaged vehicle charging at a Volkswagen Group facility, hinting at the close collaboration between the brands.
From Concept to Reality
Originally previewed as the UrbanRebel concept in 2021, the Raval represents Cupra’s entry into the compact EV segment. It’s designed to undercut the Born hatchback in price and size, positioning itself as the sportiest option among its sibling models – including the Skoda Epiq and Volkswagen ID. Polo. All three cars will share the upgraded MEB+ platform.
Performance and Handling
Cupra is emphasizing the Raval’s performance credentials. The model will be offered with a “sport chassis,” sitting 15mm lower to the ground than its counterparts. A high-performance VZ variant is also planned, featuring adaptive sports suspension, an ESC Off mode for track-ready driving, and power-adjustable CUPBucket seats.
The VZ variant boasts a more powerful 166kW electric motor paired with a limited-slip differential, driving the front wheels. Styling upgrades include a rear diffuser, spoiler, and 19-inch alloy wheels. The concept version hit 0-100km/h in 6.9 seconds, matching the ID. Polo GTI.
Design and Interior
The Raval measures 4046mm long, 1784mm wide, and 1518mm tall, making it comparable in size to the current petrol-powered Volkswagen Polo. Inside, expect a modern digital experience with a digital instrument cluster and a large 12.9-inch touchscreen infotainment system.
Battery and Range
Cupra will offer the Raval with two battery options: 38kWh and 56kWh, mirroring those available in the ID. Polo. The concept model promised a range of up to 439 kilometers, which the production version will likely approach.
Production and Market Entry
The Raval will be manufactured alongside the Volkswagen ID. Polo at Cupra’s Martorell, Spain facility. According to Cupra CEO Markus Haupt, the Raval marks “the beginning of a new era for the brand.” Production is in its final stages, and the car is expected to hit showrooms in 2027.
