Ford Australia Names Fadi Mawal as New CEO

Ford Australia has appointed Fadi Mawal as its new president and CEO, effective immediately. The move signals a continuation of Ford’s strategy for the region, with a leader deeply familiar with the company’s operations and financial dynamics.

From Forklift to Executive Suite

Mawal’s rise within Ford is notable. Starting in the early 1990s as a forklift operator at a Melbourne parts warehouse, he transitioned into finance and eventually climbed the ranks to CFO roles for both Ford Australia/New Zealand and the larger International Markets Group based in Thailand. This internal promotion underlines Ford’s preference for developing leadership from within its existing workforce.

Leadership Transition

The change at the top follows Andrew Birkic’s five-year tenure as president and CEO. During his time, Ford launched key models like the Ranger Super Duty, solidifying the brand’s presence in the competitive Australian market. Birkic has been promoted to vice president of sales and service for Ford International Markets Group, a sign of recognition for his performance in the region.

Regional Strategy

The appointments are part of a broader restructuring within Ford International Markets Group, led by president Jeff Marentic. The company is positioning Mawal’s deep understanding of Australian markets to drive further growth.

“His breadth of experience in leadership roles across the business positions him exceptionally well for this new challenge,” Marentic stated.

The transition highlights Ford’s commitment to the Australian market, despite global shifts in automotive manufacturing and distribution. By elevating an internal candidate, Ford reinforces continuity in its leadership approach.

The appointment of Mawal is a signal that the company is prioritizing operational expertise and long-term growth within its Australian and New Zealand divisions.
