Maserati has unveiled two striking, exclusive vehicles, the GranTurismo and GranCabrio, showcasing the potential of personalized design and a renewed focus on Italian craftsmanship. These unique builds, presented at the Meccanica Lirica event in Modena, represent more than just stunning aesthetics; they mark a return of GranTurismo and GranCabrio production to Maserati’s historic home and a refined approach to sound engineering.
A Return to Modena and a Shift in Production
For years, GranTurismo and GranCabrio models were assembled at the Mirafiori plant in Turin. However, production has shifted back to Maserati’s headquarters in Modena, joining the MC20 supercar line. This move accommodates the new Fiat 500 Hybrid’s production at the Mirafiori facility, highlighting Maserati’s commitment to its heritage and optimizing its production lines.
Elevating the Sound: Beyond the V8 Rumble
While earlier GranTurismo models boasted the iconic V8 engine, these new vehicles rely on a powerful twin-turbo 3.0-liter V6 engine, producing 542 hp (405 kW / 550 PS). Rather than chasing the traditional V8 rumble, Maserati’s engineers focused on maximizing the V6’s sonic potential. They implemented a new software calibration for refined valve management, allowing for a deeper, more expressive note that remains within homologation standards. This refined exhaust system enhances the driving experience without sacrificing compliance.
Distinct Aesthetics: Rosso Velluto and Oro Lirico
The GranTurismo and GranCabrio each receive a bespoke aesthetic treatment from the Maserati Officine Fuoriserie division. The GranTurismo is draped in a luxurious red velvet hue called Rosso Velluto, while the GranCabrio shines in a champagne-like finish, Oro Lirico. Adding to the exclusivity, both models sport striking 21-inch black Crio wheels with diamond-cut details finished in a matte Clearcoat Pale Gold. Further distinguishing features include White Gold Matte badges on the GranTurismo and Rosso Velluto Matte badges on the GranCabrio, complemented by gold-painted Trident emblems.
Luxurious Interiors and Craftsmanship
Stepping inside reveals a blend of high-end materials and meticulous detailing. Both vehicles feature a combination of burgundy leather and Nude Alcantara, accented by dark Bordeaux stitching. Gold chrome accents and real wood inserts crafted from red-painted poplar add a touch of opulence. A “Creata a Modena” badge on the driver’s door panel proudly displays the car’s origin, and bespoke wool car covers further enhance the ownership experience.
The Meccanica Lirica Pack: Accessible Exclusivity
Maserati has introduced the Meccanica Lirica Pack, allowing customers to incorporate select design cues from these exclusive builds into their standard GranTurismo and GranCabrio models. While it doesn’t include the upgraded exhaust system, the pack offers the distinctive Crio wheels, White Gold Matte badges, bespoke exhaust tips, and the Rosso Velluto or Oro Lirico paint options. Inside, it brings burgundy leather and Nude Alcantara upholstery, the “Creata a Modena” script, and a black finish for the steering wheel, seatbelts, headliner, and floor mats.
Electric Future: The Folgore Connection
Maserati remains open to applying the Meccanica Lirica Pack to its fully electric Folgore trims, albeit excluding the exhaust pipes and the alloy wheels. These Folgore models are currently the most powerful GranTurismo and GranCabrio variants, delivering a combined 818 hp (610 kW / 829 PS) from three electric motors.
Maserati’s new focus on sound engineering, combined with exquisite design and Italian craftsmanship, highlights the brand’s commitment to delivering a distinctive and luxurious driving experience, demonstrating that a glorious sound doesn’t necessarily require a V8 engine. These exclusive vehicles represent a new chapter for Maserati, blending heritage with innovation and offering customers a personalized pathway to automotive elegance.
