Ford Australia is accelerating its rollout of the rugged Ranger Super Duty, bringing this heavy-duty pickup truck to market earlier than initially planned. Customer deliveries will commence later this year, a significant shift from the previously announced timeframe of early 2026. Andrew Birkic, Ford Australia’s president and CEO, confirmed this news on LinkedIn.
First unveiled in April 2025, the Ranger Super Duty quickly generated excitement. Pricing details were released in July, followed by full specifications in September. This model isn’t just one variant; it represents a family of tough trucks spanning single-cab, extended-cab, and dual-cab configurations. Initially, Ford Australia will focus on cab/chassis versions, priced from $82,990 before on-road costs.
What sets the Ranger Super Duty apart is its impressive capability. Every model boasts a potent 3.0-liter turbocharged V6 diesel engine generating 154kW and 600Nm of torque, paired with a smooth 10-speed automatic transmission. Essential for heavy-duty tasks, all models come standard with locking front and rear differentials and an impressive braked towing capacity of 4500kg – leading its class in the Australian market.
The Super Duty moniker, borrowed from Ford’s powerful full-size F-Series trucks, emphasizes this Ranger’s rugged character. It showcases significant upgrades over the regular Ranger, including a reinforced chassis, larger fuel tank, wider tracks, enhanced ground clearance, and robust eight-stud wheels/hubs.
This specialized model arose directly from customer feedback. Six years ago, Birkic and the former general manager of Ford’s Global Trucks division, Gary Boes, recognized the need for a mid-size truck tailored to demanding work environments in Australia. Existing options often required costly aftermarket modifications to achieve the desired towing capacity and payload, without a factory warranty backing them.
The Ranger Super Duty addresses this gap directly, offering factory-backed capability that previously required customers to step up to full-size US pickups. This puts Ford in a unique position as rivals currently lack a comparable offering in the Australian market.
