Xiaomi Unveils Vision GT Supercar, Targets 2027 Global Expansion

Xiaomi has debuted its Vision Gran Turismo (GT) concept supercar at Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona, signaling its ambitious push into the international high-performance automotive market. The two-door vehicle, designed in collaboration with Gran Turismo producer Kazunori Yamauchi, will also be playable in the popular PlayStation 5 racing game. This move is a strategic step towards Xiaomi’s planned overseas launch in 2027.

Design Philosophy: Aerodynamics First

Xiaomi’s chief designer, Li Tianyuan, emphasizes a design approach centered on functional aerodynamics. The car’s form is dictated by performance, with every element serving an aerodynamic purpose. This “less is more” philosophy results in a visually striking design featuring a front splitter, T-shaped headlights, scissor doors, open wheelhouses, and a pronounced rear diffuser – all integrated to enhance airflow and stability. The rear incorporates Xiaomi’s signature C-shaped taillights.

Interior and Performance Focus

The Vision GT’s interior boasts a futuristic aesthetic. Highlights include a butterfly-shaped steering wheel, a full-width panoramic display, and uniquely sculpted “cocoon-shaped” seating. While performance specifications remain undisclosed for the concept, the design clearly indicates a high-performance vehicle intended to compete with established luxury and sports car brands.

Global Expansion Underway

Xiaomi’s CEO, Lei Jun, has confirmed the company’s intention to enter overseas markets by 2027. Preparations are already well underway, with the international division establishing a sales team in late 2025 focused on market research, project management, and after-sales engineering. Additionally, Xiaomi plans to rapidly expand its retail presence, aiming for 150 stores in the UK within four years and 10,000 Xiaomi Home stores globally within five.

The debut of the Vision GT is not just a design exercise; it’s a concrete step towards establishing Xiaomi as a global automotive player. The company is leveraging its technology expertise and aggressive expansion strategy to disrupt the high-performance car segment.

This move highlights Xiaomi’s broader strategy of integrating its hardware ecosystem – from smartphones to electric vehicles – into a cohesive consumer experience.
