BMW is gearing up to unveil its China-made iX3 Long Wheelbase at the 2026 Beijing Auto Show, signaling a significant push for locally tailored electric vehicles. This extended-wheelbase SUV, designed specifically for the Chinese market, is slated for release in the first half of the year, following initial reports from CarNewsChina last August.
Design and Exterior Features
The new iX3 retains the core aesthetic of its international counterpart, with subtle but key enhancements. The most striking visual elements include BMW’s signature “Digital Angel Wing” daytime running lights and a prominent “3D Luminous Grille.” The vehicle will be offered in nine color options, including Mineral White, Arctic Grey, and Carbon Black.
The standout change is the extended wheelbase, now measuring 3005mm—a notable increase over the standard model’s 2895mm. The overall dimensions remain competitive at 4780mm in length and 1895mm in width.
Tech and Interior Upgrades
Inside, the iX3 Long Wheelbase features BMW’s latest interior design, highlighted by a full-length panoramic sunroof. A key innovation is the integration of a custom large language model (LLM) developed in partnership with Alibaba. This system incorporates DeepSeek’s AI capabilities, along with support for Huawei’s HarmonyOS and HiCar services.
The rear of the vehicle also gets upgraded with a new central camera integrated into the roof spoiler, indicative of advanced driver-assistance features. The SUV will include Momenta’s full-scene navigation-assisted driving function, optimized for both highway and urban environments.
Performance and Range
Under the hood, the iX3 Long Wheelbase boasts BMW’s sixth-generation eDrive technology, built on an 800V architecture. The powertrain combines a front asynchronous motor with a rear excited synchronous motor, delivering a combined output of 345kW (463 hp) and 645 Nm of torque. This translates to a 0-100km/h acceleration time of just 4.9 seconds.
The most impressive aspect is the CLTC range exceeding 900km, with an energy consumption rate of 15.1kWh/100km. Fast charging capabilities allow for a substantial 427km range boost in just 10 minutes, making it competitive with leading EVs in the market.
The iX3 Long Wheelbase represents BMW’s commitment to tailoring electric vehicles for the unique demands of the Chinese automotive landscape. The advanced tech integrations and extended range position it as a compelling option for consumers seeking a premium electric SUV experience.
