Audi’s New Q5 Goes Electric and Price-Competitive

Audi Australia is rounding out its popular Q5 SUV lineup with two new additions: a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) variant and a powerful petrol model, both priced competitively against rivals. Available to order now for delivery in early 2026, the new models bring the total number of Q5 and Sportback variants to seven each.

The highlight is undoubtedly the arrival of the Q5 e-hybrid quattro, packing a potent plug-in hybrid powertrain. Combining a 185kW turbocharged four-cylinder engine with a powerful 105kW electric motor, this model boasts a total output of 270kW and 500Nm of torque – figures that rival the performance-oriented SQ5. The result? A brisk 0-100km/h time of just 5.1 seconds.

But Audi’s focus isn’t solely on performance. This PHEV variant also prioritizes efficiency, with an impressive claimed electric driving range of around 80km. Combined fuel consumption sits at a remarkably low 2.6L/100km, and CO2 emissions are pegged at 60g/km.

What makes the Q5 e-hybrid particularly compelling is its pricing strategy: it starts from $96,900 for the SUV and $100,400 for the Sportback – the same price as the new TFSI quattro petrol model. This puts it at a significant advantage against rivals like the BMW X3 30e xDrive ($104,800) and Mercedes-Benz GLC300e ($99,900).

Joining the PHEV is the Q5 TFSI quattro. This variant utilizes the familiar 2.0-liter turbocharged petrol engine found in the A5 Sedan and Avant, delivering 200kW and 400Nm of torque, all channeled to all four wheels. Audi positions this model as a direct competitor to the existing Q5 TDI quattro sport, priced from $94,100 before on-road costs.

The e-hybrid model comes generously equipped despite its competitive pricing. Standard features include striking 20-inch Audi Sport alloy wheels, sport suspension, red brake calipers, black exterior styling accents, rear privacy glass, and auxiliary air conditioning – all additions that enhance its performance capabilities and efficiency credentials.

The Q5 remains a crucial vehicle for Audi’s Australian success story; it’s their second best-selling model after the smaller Q3. Sales figures through October 2024 show over 2600 new Q5s registered, demonstrating continued strong customer interest in this popular SUV segment.

These additions solidify the Q5’s position as a well-rounded contender within its competitive market segment, appealing to buyers seeking both performance and efficiency without breaking the bank.
