The Range Rover family just got weirder. And honestly? We like it.
Land Rover has dropped a fifth pillar into the lineup. It is not the Velar replacement everyone expected. It is not a crossover. It is the Range Rover GT.
The name sounds like a speed model. It is actually something else. It is a grand tourer.
Why This Changes The Lineup
This isn’t a Velar killer. Land Rover is keeping that model alive for now. Instead, they are building something with a different silhouette.
Think of a wagon. Now think of a sports car. Now add air suspension and call it a Range Rover.
It sits lower than the usual boxy SUVs. The roofline slopes back. It looks like a Range Rover Sport but… smoother. Less angry. More elegant.
And here is the kicker. It sits on the new EMA platform. That is fresh tech. It is not built on the same bones as the bigger hammers in the showroom.
What You Get Inside (And Out)
Step inside. Or try to.
The doors are frameless. They open differently than your average Range Rover door. It feels less like getting into a tank. It feels like getting into a luxury sedan.
Land Rover kept the physical buttons? Barely. But they aren’t gone.
“Create a sanctuary of calm inside the quietest Range Rover ever.”
That is the quote from Land Rover. We’ll see if it holds up.
The dashboard avoids that annoying “wall of screens” trap. It’s clean. The climate controls? They moved to the center display. Ugh. We miss the dials. But at least there are stalks behind the wheel for gear changes. And some physical buttons. Not no physical buttons.
Seating: 2+2 Or Three Across?
Most press shots show the 2+2 layout. Two bucket seats in the back.
A center console separates them. It has cup holders. Wireless charging. Armrests. A touchscreen for media and climate.
If you need to haul three adults? There is a bench option. More legroom. A full-glass roof above you.
It is spacious. It is airy. It feels distinct from the interior of the standard Range Rover.
Electric Start, Hybrid Later
Right now, this is an EV.
Range? The instrument cluster showed 288 miles with 80% battery left.
Is that enough? Probably. For now, don’t trust unofficial numbers. Wait for the official EPA figures.
A full hybrid version is coming later. Land Rover plans to add it to the life cycle.
Since it’s lower and focused on the road, do not expect the same off-road dominance as the flagship models. It’s a car now. It drives like one.
The Jaguar Question
Why not badge this Jaguar?
It fits the Type 01 profile perfectly. A grand tourer. Elegant. Lower.
Land Rover seems unbothered. They aren’t worried about cannibalizing Jaguar sales. Maybe the Type 01 will launch anyway. Maybe it won’t.
For now, the GT and Velar will coexist. The GT is for the driver who wants Range Rover prestige without the SUV bulk.
Where And When
UK built. Land Rover confirmed production will happen there.
Details are sparse. More info is coming in the coming months.
The 2027 model year is the target.
Does a Range Rover GT make sense?
It breaks the mold. It risks looking out of place. It risks confusing buyers who just want a box on wheels.
But it might also attract a new crowd. People who want the badge but want to feel the road. Not just hear it through the windows.
We will see how it drives. And whether “quietest Range Rover” is marketing fluff or reality.
Until then, we are watching.
